MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness is a gentle, compassionate practice of becoming present to life as it is unfolding in the moment. It invites us to notice what is here, without judgment, and to relate to our experience with curiosity and care. Tara Brach speaks of mindfulness as having two wings: clear seeing and compassion. Clear seeing is the moment-to-moment awareness of what is happening internally and externally, including how our bodies respond to the present moment. Compassion is the ability to meet what we see with tenderness, softness, and acceptance. Together, these two wings help us understand our experience more clearly and choose how we want to respond, cultivating a sense of radical acceptance toward the ever-changing landscape of our inner and outer worlds.

My approach to mindfulness is deeply informed by the teachings of Tara Brach and Thich Nhat Hanh, whose work has shaped my understanding of presence, compassion, and embodied awareness. I have also received training in Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness with David Treleaven, which allows me to support clients in engaging mindfulness practices in ways that feel safe, grounded, and attuned to the nervous system.

What this looks like in session: slowing down in the moment together, gentle compassion towards emotions that arise, guided mediations, mindful tracking of nervous system, practicing self-compassion, pausing to feel instead of analyze, breathwork, and somatic check-ins.
